Full Text

The Great Rebellion Must be Put Down, and that Speedily.

There is no time to be lost, since Lincoln has called for men enough to do up the work in earnest, and since he has refused the Abolitionists every request to arm negroes and given them to understand that he intends to bring the whole power of the government to crush out rebellion, regardless of negroes, abolitionists or secessionists. The nation is rising to the loftiest pitch of patriotism; the young men are rallying around the old flag by hundreds of thousands. Firmness and energy for the one great end on the part of Lincoln and the administration, will unite every loyal man in the nation.

We expect the abolitionists, the real negro-lovers, those who are pressing Lincoln to violate the Constitution, and turn the war into emancipation, will turn the cold shoulder against the great Union movement of the true national men. They have strengthened Jeff. Davis all the time, and may do it still, unless Stanton's orders scare them out of it. These loud mouthed war men, as long as they could see any chance to fight for negroes, are growing cold and indifferent as they see their darling schemes played out. The nation is rising to save a government for white men. No time can now be lost in quarrelling over the negro: he is played out, and with him his beloved followers, and the great question of maintaining the supremacy of the Constitution and the Union, and crushing out rebellion comes home directly to every man.

All this pretended no party union move for the sake of a few petty offices or spoils is finished. The calls of patriotism have swallowed up all such nonsense, and the great national party who are bound to defend and maintain the great patrimony our fathers bequeathed to us, have taken the field in dead earnest, and every spoil man, and every wicked rebel had better clear the track, for the locomotives are coming, and no brakes will be put down for any such trash.—Circleville Democrat.
