MISCELLANY

From the Worcester (Mass.) Spy,

TO THE STEAM-BOAT

Thy path mighty boat!

laid in glory through the foaming sea

and rainbow miniatures around thee beam,

In glowing brilliancy,

Thou goest on thy way

swift as young eagles, seek the God of day,

On bold unwearied wing,

Though wind and tide unite,

and, though against thee elements conspire,

till cloth'd with grandeur, and array'd in might,

Thou scornest all their ire,

And when they cease to rave,

thou restest on the deep, in silence sleeping:

Her lonely night-watch keeping.

Or, home by mighty energies,

A waveless mirror bright.

At Science' magick call,

Below the wide-spread heaven.

Long as the proud waves

In sparkling foam before thee,

Yes! long as there things are,

As long as time is register'd by fame

Our FULTON'S deathless name.
