We are under obligations to Hon. John Crowell, M. C. of this district, for a bound copy of the "Report on the Finances, 1849-50."

This is the Report in which Secretary Meredith, for the purpose of inducing a return to the tariff policy of the whigs, estimated a deficiency of over sixteen millions of dollars, and asked Congress to provide for a loan of that amount to meet it, when the receipts into the Treasury for three quarters of the year overrun the estimates of the great financierer for the whole year.
