They loved each other but a dead hand barred them from happiness. Ardeth Carroll, a golden haired, amber eyed Lith girl, loved Kenneth Gleason. He loved her, too. But it was his mother's dying wish that he should wed wealthy Cecile Parker, one he didn't love. So Ardeth Carroll's heart was broken. She refused, however, to give up the man she loved. It was woman between Ardeth and Cecile, beauty and brains against wealth and influence, with a dead hand overshadowing it.
