BOTH SIDES CLAIMING IMPORTANT VICTORIES
Union Labor Supporting Government-Proclamation Issued
MONTEVIDEO, Oct. 13. - The battle of the State of Sao Paulo, the richest prize in Southern Brazil appeared in the initial stage today. Both insurgents and Federals claim victories.
Claims are made that the rebels have taken several towns.
The Federals claim 2,000 rebels have been repulsed and the Government troops are now on a march into the interior toward Colonia Mineira.
REBEL VICTORIES
BUENOS AIRES, Oct. 13.-Dispatches from sources in Uruguay said the Brazilian rebels have captured the important coastal city of Florianapolis, State of Santa Catharina.
Brazilian dispatches said the insurgents are constantly leaving rebel strongholds for a front which is now estimated to be more than 200 miles long.
DISPATCH BRITISH WARSHIP
PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad, Oct. 13. -The British warship Delhi has left here under orders to proceed full speed to Pernambuco, Brazil.
It is understood the warship is to "stand by" for protection and possible evacuation of British and other foreigners in Brazil.
The Delhi came here recently after rendering aid to the Santo Domingo hurricane sufferers.
FEDERALS ON MOVE
RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil, Oct. 13.--The Brazilian, Federals, aided by police, have moved into the west portion of Minas Geraes to attack the rebels. Most of the Federal operations heretofore have been in the southern and eastern part of the State.
Labor Aids Government
Additional strength is being given the Government by labor unions and other employee associations in Rio De Janeiro. The organizations have issued a proclamation urging all members to aid in putting down the rebellion.
MUTINY REPORTED
BUENOS AIRES, Oct. 13. - The newspaper L'Anacion said special advices have been received in Porto Alegre stating the Federal garrison at Santa Cruz has mutined.
Advices from Bello Horizonte said the Tenth Battalion at Curutrepe has disbanded and the members joined the Brazilian revolutionists.
Insurgent troops in Minas Geraes are prepared to launch a violent offensive against the Federals and have ten bombing planes at their command.
QUICK VICTORY PREDICTED
MONTEVIDEO, Oct. 13.-A quick victory for the Brazilian revolutionists is predicted by Bernadino de Camara Canto, representative here. He said: "The movement never had so much powerful influence and the revolution cannot be suppressed. In seven days the revolutionists have overthrown most of the State Governments and as soon as the State of Santa Catharina, whose administration is now limited to the island on which Florianapolis, the capital, is located, falls, it will be all over.
"Uprisings have occurred at many strategic points and troops are being massed to advance on the Federals. Large armies have been organized and equipped well."
