SHIELDS, JUNIOR NET CHAMP, WINS HERE
Frank X. Shields, New York tennis star and national junior champion, will meet the winner of the K. Werner-Don Curless match in the Wisconsin state open tennis tournament today.
He conquered W. C. Brumder in the men's singles yesterday, 6-1, 6-1.
Shields played a masterly game throughout, discerning the weak points of his opponent and capitalizing on them to good advantage.
He smashed the ball to the corners at the net for good points with fast and accurate drives. Brumder's only win was in the first set after Shields had taken five straight.
Keith Gledhill, Santa Barbara, Calif., western junior champion, defeated Ted Osborne, 6-0, 6-1, with sensational playing in straight sets in the junior division.
William Schommer, Henry Gotfredson, Joe Thelen and William Casper also successfully won the men's singles matches.
