Full Text

Extract of a letter from a gentleman in Bordeaux, to his friend in this town, April 15.

M. de Calonne, comptroller-general of the finances, has suddenly received the king's order to deliver up his Portefeuille, with injunctions not to absent himself from Versailles. He is the same minister who opened the assembly of notables with a remarkably long speech on the present state of the finances. It appears the notables have taken his conduct, as minister, into serious consideration, and find it not altogether irreproachable.
