Nelson Ingersoll, Route 1, London, won State honors by having one Hampshire litter certified in the County Commercial Class, according to Herb Barnes, Extension Swine Specialist, O.S.U.
There was 11 pigs in the litter that met the 56 day weight standard by the litter weighing 320; and the 150 day requirement, the litter weighing 1350; and the carcass cut out standard of 48% yield of the trimmed primal cuts.
The primal cuts are loins, ham, shoulder and side. There were 7 litters from the county nominated this year. This one litter was the only one that met the qualifications. This is a program to certify breeding stock that will assure farmers of the right kind of animals to use in production meat type hogs.
