We have seen a copy of the constitution adopted by the people of the State of Mississippi.
The government, as usual, is divided into three branches, members of the house of Representatives are chosen for one year by the free white males alone, according to population and not to counties--Senators are chosen for three years. no person is eligible to an office created by the assembly of which he was a member until one year after his time of service shall have expired.
The Governor and Lieut. Governor are chosen by the people biennially.
The judicial department is vested in one Supreme Court, and such superior and inferior courts as the legislature may appoint. The State shall be divided into Districts, in each of which one judge shall reside and hold the courts twice in each year.--Judges are appointed during good behaviour, but become ineligible at the age of sixty-five. The Legislature, shall appoint an attorney general and district attorney who shall continue in office four years.
