Japanese In OK Of Housing Plans Ask Non-Bias Aid

SACRAMENTO, July 24—The Issei and Nisei businessmen and residents now in the 15-block Capitol Mall Redevelopment area are fully in support of the city's efforts to get rid of the sub-standard crowded district, but want to be assured that adequate protection is provided for them against loss and discrimination.

The Japanese American Redevelopment Study Association at a recent meeting said a resolution embodying the Issei-Nisei group's objectives will be presented sometime this week at the City Council's final hearing.

Masao Itano, who presided in the last association gathering, will ask that present business establishments be permitted to remain or return to continue wherever possible.

Itano declared the group will also request that guarantees be made against discriminatory practices when present residents of the affected area try to move to other districts in the city.

They will seek provisions to reimburse both the businessmen and residents adequately if they suffer losses in either instance.

Those conducting business establishments also requested priority in the purchase of the land once the redevelopment agency buys and clears the area.

Approved by the City Council of the Redevelopment Agency's preliminary plans is one of the series of steps which must be taken before actual purchases of the properties can be started.
