Hotly-Contested Bill for Location of Normal is Passed.
SECURES INSTITUTION.
All Other Cities, Except Menominee, Finally Dropped Out of the Fight.
Marquette, Mich., April 19.—[Special.]—News was received from Lansing at 1 o'clock this morning that the state Senate passed the normal school bill, 28 to 0. The bill locates the school at Marquette and carries a $25,000 appropriation for the building. The proposition to locate the school here was hotly fought by half a dozen towns, but all, save Menominee, turned in and worked for Marquette when it was found that this city was likely to win out. The same bill passed through the House by a vote of 75 to 1. In view of these tremendous majorities, it is thought Gov. Pingree will have no hesitancy about affixing his signature and making the bill a law.
