Full Text

Whig Troubles in New York.—In another place will be found a paragraph, stating that the Committees of the two factions of the Whig party in New York, were attempting to patch up a compromise.

Later accounts, from Albany, inform us that they were unable to agree. The Committee appointed by the Whig members of the Legislature then took the subject up, but, up to midnight of Saturday evening, had not agreed. We presume that the Silver Greys insist on making the Fugitive Slave Law a party test, and that the Sewardites, as they are called, resist it. We have believed, that this section of the party had some backbone and a fair principle. We shall see how it will be. In Massachusetts we expect no such thing. We know them too well, and we now see them, throughout the State, after having heretofore talked so valiantly against that law, everywhere slinking into its passive, if not active, support, and giving it their adhesion to Silver Greyism.
