Full Text

Wilmington, Del. May 18.

On Sunday last a detachment of volunteers, amounting to more than three hundred, reached this place from Philadelphia, to aid in the protection of this state. On Monday they encamped near Staunton, about 6 miles from this town; where, we understand, they will continue for some time.

The good conduct of these troops, in their progress to the place of destination, has been such as to command the respect of the people: and the precision and correctness of their military discipline reflects the highest honor on themselves.

The Washington Guards, one of the companies of this detachment, has been formed but about six weeks--but from their discipline it might be supposed that they had been organized for years.
