Full Text

The Washington Star thinks the present postage stamp is too large. It says that if the stamp is cut in two the Government saves one-half the weight in the mails of four hundred millions of stamps. It saves, also, one-half the paper; the ink, the mucilage, the stowage, the general bulk, and the cost of transportation. It adds that the Post-office Department is considering this matter in connection with a new issue of stamps, and is also considering whether it will not be better to abolish the vignettes on the stamps, and in their place substitute what is valuable, the value of the stamp in large and prominent figures.
