Recent reports show that there are many people in outlying areas: Sanfly, Pin Point, White Bluff, etc., that would be glad to help with the fight against tuberculosis.
Thursday, December 17, 1953
This Association is glad to know that the only reason that they have not joined the fight, is that they did not know that their services would be appreciated.
There is an old saying: "Together we stand and divided we fall." This not only applies to physical warfare but to any issue that might necessitate collective action.
Mrs. Virgil Demery, president of the Associate Board of the Tuberculosis Association announces the fact that on Monday, January 1954, at 12:30 p. m. the board will meet at the West Broad Street Y.M.C.A.
"This job is too big," Mrs. Demery says, for a mere handful of people. We have approximately 51,000 Negroes in Chatham County. Twenty-five or thirty people cannot possibly meet the challenge that faces the other 50,970. "We are hoping," she further states, "that plans of organization for the ensuing year will grow out of this meeting."
It was also made clear, that the board is not interested in who you are, but what you are willing to do to help fight tuberculosis. If you will join this fight we are urging you to be present for this meeting.
