Augustin Bird was committed to the new Gaol Southwark, by Robert Gerrard, Esq; charged on the Oath of John Jebb, a Post-Boy, on a violent Suspicion of robbing Mr. Hughes in a Post-Chaise the 8th Instant, near the Bowling-Green-House on Putney-Common. He is a Person of a very genteel Deportment, about 26 Years of Age, was born in Hungary, and had the Honour to bear a Captain's Commission in that Service, in a Regiment under the Command of that brave Officer General Trenck; and was at the Battle of Belgrade in 1739, and behaved very gallantly. There is a great Resort of Persons of all Ranks to see this young Man.
