CHICAGO, July 18. —Louis 'Two-Gun' Alterie big time gangster and supposedly the only one of any importance who survived this city's bloodiest bootlegging wars in the past was shot down as he left his hotel tonight. He died an hour later.

A blast of shotgun slugs dropped Alterie who was so seriously wounded he barely survived the ambulance ride.

His assassins missed his woman companion who was later identified as his wife Irma, aged 35.

Captain Daniel Gilbert, chief U. S. Attorney and the police blamed the slaying on labor troubles.

He was once the partner of the slain Dion O'Bannion notorious Chicago bootlegger.

Alterie had lately been elected as an official of the janitors union Gilbert said.

He died without making any statements as to who his assassins might have been. The doctors said that nine slugs struck him.

His wife was taken into custody by the police tonight. At one time Alterie was known as an underling of Capone.
