Full Text

A correspondent was pleased at seeing a prospect of an incorporation of the Mechanics of this town. for benevolent and other purposes. Every institution which has charity & friendly relief for its object, ought to be encouraged; but more especially those which unite with that object the promotion of the arts and handicrafts of our country. Our correspondent was led to this remark, by observing in a Baltimore paper of Jan. 14, an advertisement, in which the Managers of the Mechanical Association of that city, inform that they had appointed three members of their body, to give their temporary relief during the recess of the board, in that inclement season, to members, or to widows & orphans of deceased members, where circumstances may require it; and requesting information of distresses, in order that the funds of the society may be appropriated to the object of the constitution.
