A dispatch from Wheeling, W. Va., says: "A most horrible and mysterious discovery was made Saturday on the farm of Samuel Hewitt, in Rich Hill township, Greene county, Pa. While a neighbor of Mr. Hewitt was passing through a piece of woods he saw the body of a man swinging to a limb a short distance away. Making a closer examination, he was horrified to find that the face and skull of the man had been mashed out of all human semblance, as though beaten with a heavy hammer, making the remains unrecognizable. But there were no evidences of violence on other portions of the body. Blood and brains, however, had run down over the clothing and dropped on the ground, making the whole appearance of the swaying corpse a most horrible one. Tied to a small limb close to the corpse was an old-fashioned horse pistol, empty. The alarm was at once given and Justice Barker summoned. He impaneled a jury. In the pockets were found six half-ounce bullets and other articles, but nothing by which his identification could be established. The man was apparently young, well dressed and about five feet six inches in height. The body had remained on the tree at least twenty-four hours."
