WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 14.

It is with great pleasure we hear, that true representations of the exact situation of the national ship of war General Greene and her people, at the time she parted from the fleet of merchantmen she convoyed from the Havanna, having been forwarded to the office of the Secretary of the Navy immediately on her arrival at Newport, government has in the most ample manner approved the conduct of the commander in returning into port, and has given orders that the ship be cleared of her ballast, which was supposed to have originated the sickness that prevailed on board, and for her being thoroughly purified and cleaned, and re-ballasted with iron, which has arrived at Newport for that purpose. It was unfortunate that the expedition with which the ship was got away (that she might be in season at the Havanna to take her convoy) necessarily occasioned her departure without being so thoroughly fitted as was intended ; and greatly to be regretted that so distressing a malady should have prevailed in so excellent a ship in her first cruise. But as the most prompt measures are taking for her complete equipment, and for the health and comfort of her crew, it is expected she will soon again be ready for sea, and that the conduct of her worthy commander Capt. Perry, who in the last cruise has given unequivocal proofs of his judgment as well as of his attachment to the public interest, and the individual safety and happiness of his crew, while in the most imminent danger from sickness, will continue to merit the confidence of his country, and to preserve to himself the esteem and good wishes of all who have the pleasure of knowing personally the benevolence of his heart, and his undaunted intrepidity in the hour of, and at the post of danger.
