MEN WILL RETURN TO WORK MONDAY AT OLD RATE OF PAY FOR PRESENT
Local laborers on two Paul H. Smith Construction company housing projects yesterday set up an A. F. of L. union to bargain for a wage increase of 62½ cents an hour, but agreed to return to work Monday at their old rate of 40 cents.
The laborers, who walked off the job Thursday, agreed to continue working while their union status is being approved at A. F. of L. headquarters in Washington.
Since the Smith contract is based on wage figures set up by the department of labor, the union will attempt to get approval for the higher wage through the Washington office.
Members of the group met yesterday afternoon at county courthouse with John Burke, union organizer from Miami.
