An Error. The rummies resolved at their late Convention that Judge Goodwin presided over a "Maine Law Convention in August last, which was called and acted for the purpose of breaking up all the political organizations in the county." Oblivions, eh? It was an anti-Maine Law Convention, presided over by Theo. Strong, which attempted to "break" all parties into the service of rum, or else to "break them up." In consequence of that Convention, the friends of Law and Order met and attempted to unite all parties against the disorganizers. Israel Goodwin presided over that Convention, and for that he has incurred the hostility of all men who love rum better than principles and party, better than their kindred and personal and political friends—better than their country or their God. Friends of law and order—Whigs, Freesoilers, Democrats!—let us support Israel Goodwin, and thus rebuke law breakers and party disorganizers. Let the People of Washington County thus show their contempt for political trickery, as well as their respect and obedience to the laws.
