MID-YEAR MEETING,

Association for the Advancement of Women.

To-day the directors of the Association for the Advancement of Women, of which Mrs. Julia Ward Howe is president, hold their mid-year meeting in this city.

Twenty years ago these clear sighted women, convinced that many of our laws and customs bore cruelly on our laboring class of women, as well as on many whose birth right of labor was denied them, banded themselves together to do all they could to effect such changes as were more fitting to the needs and to the spirit of the time.

We do not need to say how much they and other active men and women have accomplished to secure just legislation and advance in education.

The sessions during the day are for business and necessarily private, but we hear that at 8 o'clock this evening there will be a meeting at the United church chapel when short addresses are expected from several of these ladies, and at the close an opportunity may be given of meeting them personally.
