On Sunday last a negro boy was arrested for having attempted to set fire to a house in Gay street. The young miscreant had arranged a large quantity of combustible materials in the most effectual manner to accomplish his purpose, and, having set them on fire, made his escape. Fortunately, a thick smoke was seen coming from under the door, and the flames were extinguished, or the design might have completely succeeded. The boy was accused by a little coloured girl, whose suspicions were excited by seeing him go several times privately to the house in question. We have not heard that he had any accomplice in his diabolical design, which was solely prompted by private malice. He was fully committed.--Metropolitan.
