Communicated,

Mr. Editor: "Canting hypocrites," is the term which we very frequently hear applied to men who profess one thing while they practice another. I could not help thinking, the other day how applicable the term above was to those pure, conscientious men in our midst, who are continually throwing out hints against the peculiar institutions' of the South. These gentlemen, are very willing to come amongst us, and profit by the sweat and labor of the planter and his slaves—sell their wares and merchandize, or perhaps, if one of the learned professions, vend at high prices, the precious fruits of legal cunning, or coin a religious face into dollars and cents. for the sole benefit of the church, and the advancement of Christianity, but like the Pharisee, retaining their corrupt hearts, being in reality, "painted sepulchers."

Ask the great and good men, what Louisiana would be. at the present time. without the "peculiar institutions."— Where would be your long line of levee reclaiming the low and fertile lands, of your noble Mississippi, from the annual flood of waters which now sweep along harmlessly its base whilst, the richest products of the world, are ripening for the markets? Who would have felled your dense forests. under the influence of the enervating heat of a tropical sun! Think you the white man? Never!

But Mr. Editor. however much these pious gentlemen may prate. and a Mrs. Stowe write—the world will go on just as it has done. until the plans of a wise Providence, are all accomplished. This country was intended for the white race, and the low lands of Louisiana to be subdued by the negro race, and thus fitted to produce the sugar and Molasses, for the citizens. of our glorious Union, so that even Mrs. Stowe's coffee might not go without its sweetning. It is a matter of opinion, whether this is best effected at the present time, by free or slave labor, and as this is a personal matter with the South, the people here conclude, is preferable, and the climate considered most suitable. We say to these canting gentlemen, if you do not like us, leave us, and we will try to do without you, although we have a high regard for your talents and piety, and a firm belief, in the honesty of your views and purposes.

We are informed in holy writ, the Israelites, the chosen people of God. were slaves to the Egyptians, for 470 years. and that this bondage, was the result of their previous sins, as a nation, and that in addition it required 40 years of suffering in the wilderness to fit them for freedom. Now it seems to us, slavery is not so heinous an affair, if made use of, as a means of discipline and preparation even by the Almighty himself, to fit his people, for something better. The descendants of Ham, were cursed for the sin of their father, with bondage or slavery —it being declared, they should be the "servant of servants. forever."

In these latter days, these wise knaves, styled abolitionists, profess to know a great deal more. than what is plainly declared to be truth, in the Bible. If the Africans are ever to be prepared, for something better than their present state, these philosophers, cannot conceive, why they should be treated as the Israelites once were—they have decided, in their own minds, this is not all necessary or proper, and that in fact they are not the ruler of the Universe have control, and ought to judge in these matters.

In this age of rail-road. when every thing, is on the go-ahead principle. these Solomons believe Providence or God, ought no longer to proceed, by the slow means, which appears, to have governed even, in bringing into existence, the globe upon which we live. Geology teaches us, many thousands of years indeed almost indefinite periods have elapsed to bring about, the different strata, of the earth. and we are told with God and his works. both moral and physical, a thousand years are but as one day. and no day as a thousand years, in a word, that time, has nothing to do with the plans of the Almighty.

In conclusion I will add. what Solomon found true in his day, and which is verified by every man's experience, "The way of a fool is right in his own eyes; but he that hearkeneth unto counsel is wise".
