THE NEW SET OF BOOKS.

The Globe is making a noise about Mr. Webster's "new set of books." The Globe knows well enough that the five clerks who opened them made false entries and fled. Yet there were no Swartwouts, Prices, &c. among them. We ask the Globe what extravagance the Executive has been guilty of? The conduct of Congress is a different matter. The Executive is as much and as unjustly opposed by the ultras in Congress as it is gratuitously abused by the Globe. Ah! we do remember a piece of extravagance, to say the least of it. We allude to the printing of the Census. Mr. Weaver, a clerk in the State Department, (not appointed by Mr. Webster) contracted to give it to the editor of the Globe, and the Globe agreed to give Mr. Weaver several thousand dollars for the job. This is all to come out of the Treasury. But will the Globe have it entered in Mr. Webster's "new set of books?"
