Thirty Thousand Dollars for Maintenance of Committee At Washington Pledged at Salt Lake Today, Representative of Swift Offering Thousand Dollars, Which Was Declined By the Convention,

Salt Lake City, Utah, Jan. 16, --Delegates to the American National Live Stock convention today were pledged to subscribe $30,000 to the fund for maintaining a special committee in Washington to confer with the food administration on all matters affecting the live stock industry and to aid the federal trade commission in the investigation of the operation of the packers of this country. L. F. Swift of Chicago, who spoke in defense of the packers, in reply to the report of the market committee of the association, offered to subscribe a thousand dollars, but the offer was refused.
