Highly Important.

The bogus statutes provide that the county seat of each county shall be an election precinct, and polls shall be opened there for elections. Some of the counties have no county seat, but are attached to other counties. To illustrate: Richardson and Weller counties are attached to Shawnee, with the county seat at Tecumseh. Should the board of county commissioners neglect to provide other election precincts, all the voters of those counties, in order to deposit legal votes, will be compelled to pay a visit to Tecumseh, and be ready to vote on the 5th of October. In Franklin county, the election precinct is at St. Bernard. Wise county is attached to Breckinridge, with the county seat at Agnes City, situated on the Santa Fe road, at the crossing of 142 Creek, we believe. Madison and Butler counties have a county seat established at Columbia, and will be compelled to vote at that point. Coffey and Woodson counties are joined, with an election precinct at Leroy, that being the county seat of Coffey county. Shannon is the county seat of Anderson county. Wilson, Godfrey, Greenwood, Hunter and Dorn counties are attached to Allen county, with Cofachique as the county seat and place of voting. Gum Springs is the county seat of Johnson county; and Paoli, of Lykins county; and Paris, of Linn county. McGee is attached to Bourbon county, with its voting precinct at Fort Scott. There appears to be no county seat for Davis county. Atchison has a county seat at Atchison; Leavenworth at Leavenworth; Browne at Claytonville; Jefferson at Osawkee; Nemaha at Richmond; Calhoun at Calhoun; Marshall, with Arapahoe attached, at Marysville; Riley at Pawnee; Doniphan at—

The above list is important, and should be preserved. Will our friend, Mr. Christian, do us the favor to examine the list carefully, compare it with the laws, and, if there are errors, correct it for our next number?

The people will make arrangements to get out their neighbors and make sure of their attendance in their proper district, however remote they may be from the polls. Missouri sacrificed half a million of dollars, and poured thousands of votes into the Territory—coming, in some instances, two hundred miles to vote—at the March election in 1855. Their object was to make Kansas a slave State. Our people, the six months residents of the Territory, who have established themselves here, and who are to be governed by the laws which shall be made by the Legislature, elected on the 5th of October next, can submit to privations and expense to settle this question, as it should be, in favor of the citizen. If he cannot do else, he should strap his knapsack and blanket upon his shoulder and travel twenty, fifty, or a hundred miles to get to a place where he can vote. The freedom of Kansas is at stake, and big sacrifices must be made, if necessary to secure a triumph. All the barriers but a six months' actual residence in the Territory, are broken down, between the citizen and ballot box. If we let this golden opportunity slip, it may be our last chance; and slavery may, by some trick of the slave power, be foisted upon us permanently. We have the votes, and they must be polled. Remember, too, that they are to be by the voice, not on printed ballots.

The bogus statutes designate county seats as election precincts for the October 5 election. Lists various counties and their attached voting places: Richardson and Weller to Shawnee at Tecumseh; Franklin at St. Bernard; Wise to Breckinridge at Agnes City; Madison and Butler at Columbia; Coffey and Woodson at Leroy; Anderson at Shannon; Wilson, Godfrey, Greenwood, Hunter, and Dorn to Allen at Cofachique; Johnson at Gum Springs; Lykins at Paoli; Linn at Paris; McGee to Bourbon at Fort Scott; Davis has no county seat; Atchison at Atchison; Leavenworth at Leavenworth; Browne at Claytonville; Jefferson at Osawkee; Nemaha at Richmond; Calhoun at Calhoun; Marshall with Arapahoe at Marysville; Riley at Pawnee; Doniphan at—. Requests Mr. Christian to verify the list. Urges voters to travel to polls despite distances to secure free state votes by voice, not ballots.
