TO HAVE COUNTY AGENT

COUNTY BOARD DECIDE IN FAVOR OF IMPORTANT MOVE AFTER CLOSE CONTEST—EFFECTIVE JAN. 1ST.

The resolution authorizing a county agricultural agent was passed by the county board on Friday afternoon following discussion that lasted all thru the week. The measure received the endorsement of the county defense council and many of the board members but was never-the-less keenly opposed by others. Jay Morse of Mt. Hope made the resolution which in effect authorized an agent at an annual expense of $1500 to the county. Same to be effective for two years.

The resolution was carried over for three days and put to a vote on Friday afternoon as follows:

J. T. Bennett was directed to find a suitable quarters for the agent and an agricultural committee consisting of Mr. Bennett, county superintendent of schools and Geo. B. Snowden of Platteville township to work in conjunction with the agent, was provided for.

It is understood that the county's total expense shall not exceed $1,500 per annum and that the state and federal government through the university will provide the balance of salary and expense not to exceed $1,500 more.

The county clerk will advertise the position and it is considered likely that a man worth $2,000 or so per annum will be employed. A cheap man would be dear at any price.
