Local business man and civic leader, A. V. Jett, will serve as General Chairman for the Butler Street YMCA's 1962 Membership Enrollment Drive. The announcement of this responsibility was made Saturday by Warren R. Cochrane, General Secretary of the Butler Street 'Y' at the Emblem Club Dinner on Saturday.
Mr. Jett is a native of Union Springs, Alabama. He received his secondary education at Morehouse Academy and his professional training at Chicago Technical School. Following graduation from the latter institution, he worked as a Building Instructor in Industries in the states of Alabama and Mississippi.
Mr. Jett moved to Atlanta in 1934 and was employed first as a Building Superintendent. He later worked with the Atlanta Board of Education in Industrial Trades and in 1951, opened his own general contractor firm. In 1960, as the result of merger, Mr. Jett became president of the firm of Jett and Banks, the position which he now holds. Mr. Cochrane said of the chairman:
"Mr. Jett has been identified with and works consistently in all of the area of community life here in Atlanta, that had as their primary purpose, the uplifting for one of the divisions in the Community Chest Campaign. He never fails to be a high-producer in the Annual YMCA Membership Enrollment Drives."
Mr. Jett is married and has three children.
