Yesterday we received intelligence, by the arrival of a small privateer in a neighbouring harbour, of the capture of Lunenburg, a Seaport town of Nova Scotia, by five small armed vessels, belonging to three or four different ports. Several hundred men were said to be resident in the town and its vicinity, in which a block house containing a few troops, had been erected for its defence. This building, in order to induce a surrender of the troops, was set fire to: after which, the captors loaded their vessels with various kinds of goods, and ransomed the town for 1000 l. sterling. A Col. Campbell, said to be an officer in the corps of Royal American Fencibles, and several other persons, were brought off, and are to be held as hostages, till the ransom is paid. The goods which the privateers took and brought away, are said to amount to the value of upwards of 8000 l. sterling.
