Full Text

London, Oct. 6. Yesterday an Account came to the Owners of the Dispatch, Capt. Delamotte, that the said Ship was taken by a Spanish Man of War, and carried into the Havannah. This Man of War, at the same Time, took the George, Capt. Ware, belonging to Bristol.

There is also Advice, that the Loyal Charles, Capt. Way, of 460 Tons, and usually brought 500 Hogsheads of Sugar, had been taken by a Spanish Guardacosta, and carried to the Havannah.

The Elizabeth, Hodgson, bound from Jamaica for London, was also taken by the Spaniards; but they having their Hands full of other Prizes, they let her go, being the least valuable.

The Spanish Depredations increasing, instead of abating, and the French having lately enter'd upon the same Business, the Trade to and from the Sugar Islands, is thereby grown very precarious.

It looks as if a Day of Reckoning with the Spaniards draws nigh. There are Three Regiments of Foot order'd for Georgia; One of which is to embark immediately from Gibraltar. and the other Two from hence, in about a Fortnight: The Command of which, we hear, is to be given to James Oglethorpe, Esq; Great Quantities of Gunpowder, Shot, &c. continue to be shipped off for the Plantations.
