Dedication of Gallup Indian Hospital Being Planned

The U. S. Public Health Service, with the assistance of Indian Tribal officials and officials of the City of Gallup, are planning ceremonies to dedicate the new 200-bed PHS Indian Hospital in Gallup. The tentative date set for this occasion is May 27, 1961.

Arrangements are being made for Dr. Luther Terry, Surgeon General of the United States Public Health Service to serve as principal speaker. If he is unavailable, Dr. James R. Shaw, Chief, Division of Indian Health, U. S. Public Health Service, will deliver the dedicatory address. Dr. Robert L. Zobel, Area Medical Officer, PHS Indian Health Area Office, Albuquerque, is to serve as master of ceremonies.

Other speakers planned include the Acting Commissioner of Indian Affairs, Chairman of the Navajo Tribal Council, Chairman of the Hopi Tribal Council, the Governor of the Zuni Tribe, and the Mayor of Gallup.

Mr. Thurman Smith, Personnel Officer of the Gallup Indian Hospital is chairman of the planning committee.
