The reduction of the duties on Tea and Coffee by Congress, will "come home to the business and bosoms" of all classes of the community. We cannot but consider the taking off the tax on Tea especially, as distinguishing the present Congress for gallantry, and indicating that our fair countrywomen are better represented in the councils of the nation now, than on any former occasion. In the House of Representatives, this Bill which is so provident of the comfort of the ladies, passed by a majority of 163 to 51. Our patriotic mothers sacrificed their favorite beverage, most cheerfully to assert the rights of Americans to legislate for themselves; it is but a proper return on the part of our legislators to sacrifice the duty on Tea, and reduce its price that the whole sex may enjoy this luxury, and in flowing cups celebrate the era of reform, which in retrenching the extravagance of Government, enables every citizen to introduce indulgences at home, and in the true spirit of chivalry begins by paying a welcome tribute to those who alone deserve the homage of a nation of freemen. The coalition malcontents must pardon their wives and daughters, if they are no longer found in the ranks of the opposition. The measures of the military chieftain have been always auspicious to them. In war he defended their "beauty" from violation, and among the first acts of his civil administration, he presents as an offering to his fair countrywomen, that delicious inspiration which animates their beauty and makes it eloquent.
