Full Text

The Jews. The Grand Rabbi De Collogna, of Paris, cocks his thumb at Mr. Noah, of New-York, the Governor and Judge of Israel, and calls him a visionary of good intentions—says that Grand Island is "a marsh" and that "the venerable Messrs. Hirschell and Meldola, chief Rabbis at London, and himself," positively refuse the appointments Mr. Noah has been pleased to confer upon them. Mr. Noah in reply says that De Cologna has been induced to this step by the French Ministry, who though not disposed to afford the blessings of toleration, or the protection of the laws to those persecuted people, were nevertheless, unwilling to lose their active industry, capital and enterprise.
