Full Text

The fact that Mackay, Fair and other prominent persons who were summoned as witnesses to appear at Hamilton next Monday, in the Comins-Hoyt libel case, have, upon affidavits from the parties that they have no knowledge of any facts touching the case, been excused, will have the effect of cooling, to a great extent, the interest felt in the progress of the trial.

Aside from the satisfaction of enjoying a look at the "Lions," some rare sport was expected from the testimony which it was calculated would be extorted from some of these powerful political manipulators; but these gentlemen have no idea of the acts of any member of the last Legislature, nor of any of the influences which might possibly have governed those acts-in fact, their minds are worried with doubt as to whether that august body held its regular biennial session.

It is some satisfaction to know, however, that these highly exalted personages will condescend to take a trifle of interest in subjects of this nature some time next Fall.
