[Gazette de France.]

It is with great pleasure we observe that liberal and useful knowledge is extending itself gradually over the universe. This observation we apply to a proposition lately made to the American Congress, to establish a uniformity of weights and measures throughout the United States. They are proceeding upon an idea exactly similar to what has been broached in France, and which, we hope, will soon be realized. The Americans, like ourselves, are convinced of the utility of such a reform, and the necessity of fixing upon some natural and invariable standard, which may serve as a basis for all their calculations.
