Montevideo.--Captain Gale, of the brig Triton, at Salem in 62 days from Montevideo, reports that during the thirty days he remained there, three vessels had evaded the blockading squadron and reached Buenos Ayres, and one had taken in a full cargo and departed for Havana. Capt. G. says, 'there does not appear to be any difficulty in going to B. Ayres with a fast sailing vessel which draws but little water. Pilots are plenty at Montevideo. The last vessel went up in 11 hours, and her pilot had carried up three and was then waiting for another opportunity.'

Capt. G. sailed Aug. 16. The brig President Adams, of Baltimore, was lying at Montevideo, with sails unbent and topmast housed; her trial was expected to commence in a few days. In lat. 10. S. lon 35.30 W. the Triton was boarded by the Buenos Ayrean privateer brig General Brandzen, captain J. C. De Kay, who reported that he had had an engagement with two Brazilian 14-gun brigs, one of which he captured, the other escaped. The privateer was bound off Pernambuco; and when the Triton touched at that port, Capt. Gale was informed that the day previous she had taken a smack a few hours out, with a cargo of English goods worth 60,000 dollars. The Intendant had ordered out a large brig of war to pursue her. She had taken another small smack and sent her in with prisoners, being very short of provisions. She had taken in all 15 prizes.

The privateer mentioned above was formerly the merchant brig Sylph, of Baltimore.
