Full Text

A Sign.—The following paragraph is taken from "the Natchez," a journal published at Natchez, in the State of Mississippi:
"From present indications, if we mistake not, Mississippi, within six months from this time, instead of a Jackson, will be called a Calhoun State; and we are not certain if Calhoun was fairly before the People as a candidate this day, that he would not take the vote of this State in opposition to Jackson—not because the people like the Calhoun doctrine, but because they would prefer him to Jackson. We much fear the next contest in this State will be between Clay and Calhoun, instead of Clay and Jackson."

A journal in Natchez, Mississippi, predicts that within six months, the state will be called a Calhoun State instead of a Jackson State. It suggests Calhoun could win the state's vote against Jackson if fairly presented as a candidate, due to preference over Jackson rather than support for his doctrine. The journal fears the next contest will be between Clay and Calhoun rather than Clay and Jackson.
