MONDAY SEPTEMBER 1.
We are informed that the President arrived at Detroit in three days after his departure from Buffalo. The British officers at Malden, expecting him to pass there, had prepared to salute him; but on reaching Detroit river, the President, accompanied by General Brown, embarked in a boat, and landed at Spring Wells, where he was met by the citizens of Detroit en masse, and by them escorted to the residence of Governor Cass, in the town. The suite of the President proceeded up on the British side of the river. In the evening the town was brilliantly illuminated, and every mark of respect shewn to the President. He was to leave Detroit on the 15th ult. for Sandusky, on his way to Pittsburg, accompanied by Governor Cass and General Brown, as far as Chillicothe, in Ohio; and it is supposed he will reach Washington about the 10th instant.
