Aspirations For
V.P. Candidacy
Governor Leroy Collins, in Washington for the Democratic Victory Dinner, told The Citizen's Washington Bureau that he is not a candidate for Vice President in 1960.
Governor Collins and Senator George Smathers have been mentioned frequently as possible contenders for the second spot on the Democratic ticket in 1960.
"I am not and will not be a candidate for vice president," Collins asserted when asked of his plans for 1960.
Other party leaders were overheard assuring Governor Collins of their support in 1964. This might indicate that the youthful Floridian may have his eyes on 1964 rather than 1960.
