The question of compensation for the commissioners was then considered. Franklin B. Levis, on behalf of the commissioners, John W. Harris, J. J. Fenstermacher and Joseph Huff, told how voluminous their labor had been, and asked for an allowance of $500 each.
Mr. Palmer said the Township Committee requested that the fee be made $300 each.
Judge Lloyd fixed the fees at $400 each for Harris and Fenstermacher, and $500 for Huff, who had acted as secretary.
The report shows the amount of unpaid taxes unearthed is $2,448.44, to which is added a lot of costs and other expenses levied against the properties amounting to $1,093.35, making a total of $3,541.79 due the township.
The cost of the work has been as follows: Counsel fees, searches, subpoenas, etc. $1,653.91; allowance to commissioners, $1,300; total $2,952.91.
