Full Text

Last Monday Evening the Crew of a Boat belonging to His Majesty's Ship Norwich, which was appointed to keep Watch round the said Ship, took an Opportunity to desert from her, by getting ashore on the Jersey Side of this Harbour. Before they got to Land they were discovered by the Man of War, who suspecting their Design, fired a Shot at them, but without any Regard being paid to it; on which he fired another, that hit the Boat and almost sunk her, besides taking off one of the Men's Legs: However, they made a shift to reach the Shore with her, and got clear off, (notwithstanding they were pursued by two other Boats from the Norwich and Winchelsea) leaving the wounded Man behind them, in the Boat. The Crew consisted of 15 in Number.
