Democracy In Sports
The tense struggles for championships in both the American and National Baseball Leagues were struggles in which athletes of hues and creeds-typical Americans-competed. These contests demonstrated what individuals can do if provided an opportunity.
The team work of the athletes further demonstrated what could be done in all lines of activities of our daily lives, if ability were utilized irrespective of race, creed, color, or national origin. Such endeavors as politics, economics, business, law, industry, farming and hundreds of others could utilize ability where found. This would be our greatest weapon against communism.
Our leaders in each of these fields should wake up. They should come out of their dream world of superiority of groups, on the basis of physical characteristics.
Some gains have been made. Even in the majority of these instances individuals who are members of minority groups have not been given full opportunity to reach the top.
Maybe the world of sports will have to continue to be the beacon light to a true democracy.
