CAPTURE OF THE SUPPOSED ROBBER.--A colored man named Barrett was captured on Friday last, who, from having some of the stolen goods in his possession, is doubtless the burglar who robbed Mr. Wilmarth's store. Mr. L. Kingsbury and Mr. Barton of this village were in Tekonsha, and saw him passing with a small trunk in his hand, and immediately followed in pursuit. Mr. K. demanded the trunk, which was given up by the negro and examined by Mr. K., who was satisfied that the contents were some of the stolen goods, and thereupon undertook to arrest Barrett, who instantly drew a dirk knife and turned upon Mr. K., whose only means of defence was a slight cane, and who threw himself backward to avoid the blow and aimed at his heart, fell upon the ground, but did not escape the blow of the knife, which passed through the skirt of his coat, and pantaloons, and cut through his pocket book, inflicting a wound that would without doubt have been fatal, had it not been for the turning aside the knife. A more narrow escape from death could not very well have happened. The negro then turned and fled, and was followed by Mr. K. and Mr. B. about three miles, when he was taken. The citizens of Tekonsha turned out and aided in securing the culprit, when he was brought to this village. He will probably have justice meted out to him, and have an opportunity to serve the State in that "expensive institution," located at Jackson.
