Judge Sharkey Resigned.

"Judge Sharkey has resigned his seat in the Supreme Bench, to take effect from and after the 12th day of January next. This confirms the opinion we have heretofore advanced, that he is a Whig candidate for the United States Senate. Democrats of Mississippi! You now see your men and know your work. It is for you to decide whether you will become parties to the contract which has been made for transferring the State to the support of Fillmore & Co."—Mississippian.

Thus the deep laid plans of the submissionists, or whigs, are developing themselves. Judge Sharkey, was among the first and prime movers in getting up the State Rights party, and in causing the Democracy to loose sight, for the time, of their party name. Indeed, so active was he, that the whig papers of the State, especially the Nat. Courier, denounced him as neglecting his official business, to canvass the State, and make speeches against the Union. But Judge Sharkey made a visit to Washington, where the programme of his play was laid down, and as soon, as he returned to Mississippi, he began to perform his part. He was handed the following bill, by Messrs. Fillmore and Webster:

"Foote is to go to Mississippi, and run for Governor on the Whig ticket, upon the Union issue; Foote will doubtless carry the State; but he will hold on to his seat in the Senate, until he is elected Governor and empowered to appoint his successor. Now, Judge Sharkey, you have given us much uneasiness by your course; you have been a violent and faithful whig, but of late you runaway after strange gods. Let us make a suggestion to you, go you home and attend the Nashville Convention, when it meets and publishes its platform. pick a flaw with it, and craw-fish back into the whig ranks. If you do this, you shall receive the appointment from Foote, to the United States Senate. Foote does not want to be elected to the Senate again. His only want is money, and as soon as the Mississippi Legislature elects a whig President of the Senate, Foote will resign his gubernatorial seat, and we will give him a comfortable berth in the Cabinet, or some foreign mission. Thus you see, Judge, by this grand manoeuver, we will secure a whig Legislature, a whig Governor, and a whig Senator, from Democratic Mississippi."

This temptation was too great for the Chief Justice of Mississippi, and "human nature give in." He is now openly in the field as a candidate for Senate, vice Foote.

We call upon the Democracy to rally against these machinations of whiggery. Let their plans be accomplished, and soon, we will have banks, tariffs and internal improvement schemes, without number, over the country. Upon the Democracy depends the success or failure of these schemes.
