FORMER DECORAHANS SNOWED IN.

Chas. Marsh Writes Mother Letter From Oregon, Tells About Snow Four Feet Deep.

Mrs. N. S. Marsh received a letter last week from her son Charles who lives at Metolius, Oregon, which told about snow being four feet on the level.

Their daughter Lelia teaches school, five miles out in the country. Her father took her out in the car in the morning and left her there with the understanding that if it quit he would go after her, but if it got worse she would have to stay there. It snowed all day and all night and most all day and all night on Wednesday, and when it got through the snow was four feet on the level, and they say that is something that has very seldom happened in that country. It was about zero all the time it was snowing, and after it quit it went down as low as 30 below zero, and at Madras a short distance away it was over 50 below.

Miss Lelia was unable to get home, and could not hold school either, so all she could do was to stay at the house where she was, and nearly freeze, as it was a very cold house. She stayed there until Sunday afternoon when a man came along with a couple of horses, who was going to Metolius, so she struck him for a ride, and went in on horseback, without a saddle, just a blanket to ride on. They left at four o'clock in the afternoon and got home at ten. When she arrived she was pretty chilly, but not froze, and she soon got warmed up, and then she was told that her Uncle Ben, of Decorah had sent some new songs, and she got her mother at them and she danced and sang until 12 o'clock, thus demonstrating that she still had some pep and energy left.

The twins, Francis and Eugene, sons of Mr. and Mrs. Marsh, are both attending the Washington University at Seattle, taking a law course. They are taking a four year course and this is their first year at the University.
