MRS. TOBIN MOVES ON.

Woman Who Shakes Faith of People in Human Nature Leaves.

Mrs. Bessie Tobin, the "coke" and cigarette fiend and wholesale hard luck story teller and grafter, has at last been forced by the police to leave town, leaving a trail of petty crimes behind her and a lot of people who have had their faith in human nature badly shaken.

On the 28th of last November Mrs. Tobin with her two boys came to favor the city of Topeka with her society. No one was able to ever be quite certain as to whether the lady was a former citizen of Wichita or Oklahoma, as her tales did not always stand the stress of reputation She worked the different charitable organizations for all they would stand, until they found employment for herself and two boys so that they were earning the combined sum of more than $8 a week and she her board.

She rented furnished rooms of Judge Grover's family at 407 Madison street. Before many weeks it was reported to the judge that his tenant was selling his goods to a second hand dealer. She was arrested and fined $50, but allowed to go on the promise not to repeat her offense.

But reports kept pouring in that the woman with her pitiful tales and sorrowful eyes was working a strenuous system of grafting and petty thievery, including an attempt to sell some goods she purchasing on the installment plan.

At last the patience of the authorities reached its limit and Mrs. Bessie Tobin was informed that she must say farewell to our capital city and say it quick. She took the hint and has flown to a fresh field for her operations, where her stories are not so well known.
