This is Event 1 of 2. The full text below covers all events in this component.
When it comes to a comparison there is no distinction between the "hatchet men" of the Chinese secret conclaves who are appointed to do murder, and the hatchet men of Caucasian associations. There is no condemnation that the first deserve that is not equally the due of the other.
The American people are growing thoroughly weary of these intrigues and murderous plots by foreigners against foreigners in this country. The cause that apologizes for them, or in any degree palliates such offenses, must not expect any other sentiment to be entertained in this country concerning it than that of detestation and abhorrence. The leaders of the Irish cause owe it to themselves and the interest they represent to do something more than repudiate these crimes by resolution. This people will not submit to the country being made the bloody ground for the wreaking of revenges engendered in the promotion of interests that aim their shafts against powers with which we are at peace.
