Farm Purchases Up 85 Per Cent
Financing obtained through the Federal Land Bank of St. Paul for the purchase of Minnesota farms amounted to $1,019,000 in the first three months of 1940—an increase of 85 per cent above the financing for similar purposes in the first three months of 1939, says a statement from the land bank this week.
This includes new loans for the purchase of farms, purchase money mortgages, and sales contracts. There were 25 new loans for the purchase of farms, totaling $151,000 in the 3-month period this year in addition to other new loans. Total purchases in this state were 306 farms, a gain in numbers of 90 per cent.
